Tantra has been of the trendiest places to eat in South Beach for a number of years now. Despite its obscenely high prices ($30-$50 for an entre), Tantra is one of the rare places that lives up to the hype.
I've been to Tantra a handful of times and it serves well as either a romantic spot for you and your significant other, or as a place to go with a group of friends to have a
really fun dinner. The food is excellent, but it's really the atmosphere that you come for. The decor is very rich, with Asian, Indian and other eclectic influences. There's tons of stuff on the walls, ceiling and even the floor that give the place a very warm and intimate feel. There's always good pulsating music to add to the overall feel as well.
There are two bars in the restaurant, and there are usually plenty of people dancing in front of them throughout the evening. To add to the fun, the drinks at Tantra are excellent. They have a long "martini" list of very exotic drinks. My favorite is the "25th Hour" (Red Bull, Stoli, Ohranji Vodka and fresh Orange Juice).
To top it all off, as I mentioned earlier, the food is excellent. The menu is very eclectic with lots of different influences. It's kind of hard to categorize it as one specific cuisine. Best bet is to check out the menu on their
web site. Everyone that I've gone with has always loved their food, regardless of what they ordered.
Because of the prices, Tantra is reserved for special occasions. It really is worth it though. The atmosphere, drinks and food make for an extremely memorable dining experience. More of an event/party than just a meal.
