for everyone

Cuisine: Pizza

For my money, the best pizza in the city. While I haven't tried Totonno's, I would rate John's above the other famed NYC pizzerias....Lombardi's, Patsy's and Grimaldi's. All of those serve some fine pizza, and are definitely far better than your average slice joint, but John's is just a notch better. Plus, its got a great Bleecker St. location in the heart of the Village.

There's probably a better version of this somewhere, but here's a decent little summary of the history of pizza in NY that includes pizza family tree that connects Lombardi's, Patsy's and Grimaldi's. It even gives you the scoop behind all of the Ray's Pizza joints in the city.

I can't read a review of a NYC pizza joint without thinking of St. Mark's Pizza. RIP. Sniff.

I hope you are making a mental note for when we come to town. I am sure we will be looking for reccomendations. We received our "Official NY guide" at Courtney's dance Banquet on Sun. BTW Ken found out that the Yankees are playing the Mets when we are in town. I am sure he will be contacting you. All the dance dads were talking about it.

We were here a few weeks ago and I told Dave that we should bring you all here for your NYC pizza experience.

Such great food here, I agree! It was the first place I ate when I moved back to NY from Florida, because it was near my apt, and I became obsessed.

I feel your pain. John's may have the best pie, but for that 3am, just left the bars, still drunk, burn the roof of your mouth to shreds slice, you couldn't beat St. Mark's.

St. Mark's had the best/tastiest sauce by far.

I'm originally from Philadelphia, but moved to San Francisco and there's hardly any good pizza out here at all. Once, when I was visiting the East Village back in the late nineties, I enjoyed an eggplant parmigiana slice at St. Mark's Pizza. I have savored that memory for years. Now I find out it's gone. I am... distraught.
