Jason might be remodelling his kitchen soon and wanted to see pictures of ours, so I figured I'd share with everyone.

The new kitchen is actually a little over a year old now. The "before" pictures don't really convey how bad it really was. Lots of water damage and other crap that built up over the 20 years that the apartment was a rental unit.

We had someone help us with the basic cabinet layout, but I did most of the design work myself. We had a great contractor and the finished product came out exactly as we had envisioned it.

To make me feel a little better, can you take a photo of the kitchen as it looks in day-to-day life? You guys can't really keep it this pristine, right?

The countertop is something called Silestone. It's made out of 90%+ quartz, so it's heat and scratch resistant like granite, but it also requires less maintenance than granite. It never needs to be sealed.

It comes in a bunch of different colors, many of which are pretty sparkly, but the one we got is pretty close to flat black (Black Tebas). Actually, the big reason we went with it was that it has less shine than Absolute Black granite (which is also low maintenance).

I really wanted a matte black surface, but all of the options (like slate and honed granite) come with too many downsides.

You could have gotten a concrete countertop (no, I'm not kidding). Also pretty low maintenance, and totally customizable!

I'm not sure exactly since no one around here does it, but from what I've read, I think it's on a par with or a bit less than granite, etc.

Redecorating my kitchen is always a fun and exciting task for me and my husband. It can be challenging sometimes but the finished project is always worth it for us. Whenever we have guests over the first thing they point out is our wonderful remodeled kitchen. I have found some awesome decorative hardware over the net and it has helped out our projects many times in the past. There are just so many different options available and it makes it just so much more interesting with all the different possibilities.

I just love the pictures! I really want to remodel my kitchen. I am hoping to hire concrete contractors to add on a few rooms to my house. I haven't found anyone in Dallas that I like yet. I am going to be making a lot of changes to my house this summer!
