It's possible that I might actually agree with Trump here. I'm not sure I'd use quite so harsh words to describe the current plans, but I can't say that I really love it.

Here's a proposal to rebuild the twin towers, albeit with some improvements in design and safety over the originals:

Twin Towers II

Initially, I didn't like this idea, but the more I think about it, the more the idea of restoring the skyline to what it was before appeals to me. The original towers were pretty ugly, and weren't looked upon too favorably for most of their existence. But, two towers that retained the silhouettes of the originals while improving the look of the facades could be an interesting way to go.

Interesting stuff ... I'd love to get that skyline back as well, but I fear we'd be asking for trouble with a building that would be the highest in the world.

I definitely agree.

But would you be willing to work in one of them?!? Well, I know you wouldn't because I wouldn't let you :-), but in the general sense, would you want to work at the top of one of these towers?

It would be great to see the skyline back but who would really want to work in these buildings. As Trump said to rent that space out is going to be hard. So for me I would go with just a memorial park.

I would be thrilled to. Five times a day I would climb to the highest point, face East and extend my personal symbol of satisfaction.

I'm too superstitious, so I don't think I would want to work there. But I'm thinking as the years pass, the idea of working in the rebuilt towers, or leasing out space, will not be a problem. Especially if the price is right!

Humans have a knack for thinking nothing bad will ever happen to them...probably why flood victims clean up their river soaked dwellings and move back in.

I'm not sure how I feel about the design, but I say we should definitely rebuild in order to honor all those who lost their lives. A prominent memorial should also be included.

People forget that it took almost 30 years for the orgininal towers to be at or near capacity. A good percantage of the office space was taken up by NYC offices (inlcuding the emergency response center).

I understand that people may be afraid to work there, but what will make the Freedom tower any more dangerous than, the Citybank building, Grand Central Station, the Bank of America building in San Francisco, or any other skyscraper. Yes the location is more important to the terrorists, but since we know that already, it will be the first place on the list to watch out for.

I saw a news report on the whole situation. The current plan is to build the Freedom tower, after re-building "7" and then build four more office towers later. This is being driven by Larry Silverstein who only want to put up as much office space as possible to make the most money as possible. Putting up six total buildings before this century is over is probably a bad idea. The space will never be filled.

The problem with the freedom tower right now, and why I agree with Trump is that the current design is only about 70 stories tall with a 100 story tall antenna. While the total height will be 1776 feet (or close to it), there will be no observation deck, no way for anyone to enjoy it. It will also be a "hollow shell" and I agree that it sends the wrong message. This is one time where, ecomics and the fear of another terrorist attack must give way. Whatever is built there should be taller than the original building to show the world that when we are hit we get back up. It is time to take this tragedy and make it an opportunity to build a great building, not just a large antenna.
